Françoise Groves de Milleret ~ November 2010

Ever since she can remember, Françoise has loved drawing and painting. Discovering china painting quite by accident in the mid '80s it quickly became an essential part of her life, leading to sharing and teaching this very special art form.

She never dreamt that it would take her far and wide, making wonderful lifelong friends here and particularly in Japan.

China painting offers such a huge range of subjects, styles and techniques that anyone should find it accessible and, above all, most enjoyable and rewarding.

During the demonstration on painting animals, Françoise stressed that the painter should always begin with the eye, by making a very precise drawing to include light and shadow. In response to queries she quickly demonstrated with the rough sketch above.

On the partailly finished plate opposite Françoise showed how to deepen shadows to show the contours of the animal's body.

Left is a another example of Françoise's work.
